A native of Maine, Scott Hodgdon is a freelance
illustrator currently living and working in the St. Louis area.
Inspired by such artists as N.C. Wyeth, Winslow Homer, and Rockwell Kent,
he knew early on in life that he
wanted to be an illustrator, and set out to make this goal a reality.
Scott moved to Boston and attended the Butera School of Art,
where he further developed his
talents. He worked for two prominent ad agencies during the eighties,
making valuable connections
and learning the industry. In 1992, he began his career as a freelance
illustrator. Through years of
experience he has developed a unique style of painting that is clearly
defined by his use of dramatic
color and expressive handling of emotion.
Combining traditional painting techniques with the versatility of pastels,
he adds a vibrant dimension
to the subjects in his illustrations. His use of skewed perspective
and shapes creates an interesting
and unusual design that gives his artwork a
dream-like quality.
In addition to his numerous advertising and editorial commercial assignments,
Scott is busy creating
a series of paintings for licensing and merchandising. Scott is a member of the Graphic Artists Guild
and The Society of Illustrators.
